How our organization works.
Peaks and Professors is run by trip leads: UCLA undergrads who each plan one weekend hike a quarter. They invite a professor of their choosing, pick the date and location, organize sign-ups and transportation, and lead the group on the trail.
Our hikes are open to all UCLA students. Participants sign up for a trip and spend a day outdoors with a professor and fellow students, with all the planning taken care of.

Trip leads plan and lead one hike per quarter and attend our weekly trip lead meetings. Along the way, our board hosts plenty of socials, organizes IM teams, and runs a quarterly camping trip for our leads!
We recruit trip leads in Fall and Spring quarter. If you are interested in being trip lead, check out our application page!
Professor
Professor
Professors are the stars of our hikes, spending a day outdoors getting to know UCLA students in a more casual setting. They are invited by trip leads or can email the club to express interest in being part of a hike. Typically, one professor joins us per hike, but additional professors, TAs, family members, and pets are always welcome!

UCLA students can sign up for as many hikes as they like. Since our hikes tend to be popular and can only accommodate 10-15 people, our sign-up process works as follows:
Sign-ups are entered into a lottery
Trip leads randomly select from the lottery
Selected students pay a small fee to participate that helps support the club
Get hiking!
Students who can drive for our hikes are usually guaranteed a spot and have the fee waived. If you want to join us on a hike, check out our trips page!
